No 1: Self-Publishing

If you are a good writer, then there is no reason why you cannot make millions with your skill. Technology has disrupted the publishing industry. Traditionally, no matter how good you can write, you still need to meet many big name publisher and literally beg them, before your work can be published. But with technology, anyone can be a publisher.

A classic success story in the world of self-publishing is that of teenage writer Amanda Hocking. As a teenager, Amanda wrote several paranormal novels that where all rejected by 9 publishing agents. However in 2010 she needed $300 for a journey, and thus she decided to sell her book on Amazon to raise the money.  Within 6 months Hocking has raised not only the $300 she needed, but an additional $20,000 selling 150,000 copies of her books. In the next 20 months Hocking has sold 1.5m books and made $2.5m. All by her lonesome self. Not a single book agent or publishing house or sales force or marketing manager or bookshop anywhere in sight.

Many Nigerians today have books on Amazon, which is the biggest book seller in the world. So if you can write, this may be something you should consider.

  No 5: Dropshipping

Dropshipping is a retail fulfillment method where a store doesn’t keep the products it sells in stock. Instead, when a store sells a product, it purchases the item from a third party and has it shipped directly to the customer. As a result, the merchant never sees or handles the product.

The biggest difference between dropshipping and the standard retail model is that the selling merchant doesn’t stock or own inventory. Instead, the merchant purchases inventory as needed from a third party – usually a wholesaler or manufacturer – to fulfill orders.

Dropshipping is different from affiliate marketing; in affiliate marketing you are selling someone’s product for a commission. But in dropshipping, you sell the product as if it is from your own store, and you sell at your own price.

You are like konga.com or Jumia.com. You build and market your e-store just like a normal online retailer except that normal retailers have to tie up huge amounts of capital purchasing inventory.

With the dropshipping model, you don’t have to purchase a product unless you already made the sale and have been paid by the customer.
