At just 24 yrs old, Sandile Shezi has won the title of being South Africa’s youngest multi-millionaire. This was a young boy that grew up in poverty, but refused to be broken by it. Instead poverty became a powerful motivator, that pushed him to make something of himself.
In an interview, he said:
“People always say Sandile you are such an inspiration, who inspires you? [My answer] Poverty…”
A few years ago Sandile was just a young boy trying to make his way into this world. He was laughed and ridiculed at for selling muffins at his high school to make extra pocket money.
Shezi mentioned that after selling muffins he started selling clothes, which he says taught him a lot about business and handling rejection, as it was a door-to-door sales. As a teenager, Shezi started trading in forex. He became so passionate about forex trading, that he took a very big risk that nearly caused a problem with his parents. He took all the money meant for his education and invested it in forex trading, a move that could have easily wiped him out, and then he decided to drop out of university to focus full time on forex trading.
He decided to dropped out in his third year to trade full time, without his parents knowing. He mentions that his parents at the time were disappointed with him for dropping out, but he did it to pursue his dreams, and now they remain fully supportive of him.
This bold risk eventually made him a millionaire at 23 yrs. Forex trading is an over-the-counter market, in which currencies of the world are traded. Today, Shezi owns a FOREX trading company, and teaches young people how to trade Forex safely. Even though he took a great risk with his education, he now teaches young people to avoid taking such risks, as the FOREX market can be very volatile. He also warns young people never to place all their savings in one basket and to make sure they take adequate training before they venture into any business, as it will save them from costly business mistakes.
To please his parents, Shezi now the youngest millionaire in South Africa returned to school and obtained a National Diploma from the Durban University of Technology (DUT) majoring in Public Relations, and applied communications.
He believes young people can come out of poverty despite their background, and constantly urges young people to take training in modern businesses that can give them good income with a low investment.
Sandile Shezi is still a kid despite all his achievements, he loves gadgets and has a collection of drones. He also has a weakness for fast powerful cars. His car collection includes a powerful Mercedes AMG and a Ferrari.
The greatest barrier stopping young people from taking advantage of technology and creating wealth, is their own ignorance. The world has changed, and like Bill Gates said, “If you are born poor, it is not your fault, but if you die poor, it is your fault.” Young people should learn to take informed risk, train and equip themselves. Technology has made it possible for anyone to accumulate great wealth, irrespective of gender, demography, and background.
